Introduction
Our task was to design a unique lamp with the prompts "artist" and "table" as our inspiration. This led us to create an artist's table light—a piece that embodies the creative essence of an artist’s workspace. We infused the project with our boldest and most imaginative ideas, blending functionality with an artistic flair to create a lamp that’s as expressive as it is practical. This lamp not only lights up a space but also serves as a tribute to the creativity and inspiration found in an artist’s environment.
Working
1. Lamp designed in the shape of a seashell.
2. Two gooseneck tubes connect the shell to the lamp base.
3. Light source positioned inside the shell.
4. Door switch installed within the shell to control the light.
5. When the shell closes, pressure on the switch turns off the light.
6. When the shell opens, the light automatically turns on.
Making
1. Lamp consists of three main parts: the shell, base, and connections.
2. Shell is 3D-printed in two parts, joined by two hooks.
3. Interior of the shell lined with frosted acrylic sheets.
4. Light source and switch are enclosed within the shell.
5. Base crafted from pinewood.
6. Gooseneck tubes connect the shell to the base and house the wiring.
7. Total height of the lamp is 12 inches.
Justification
1. Unique Form: Artistic design adds a distinctive touch to any artist’s desk.
2. Adjustable Wire: Bendable wire allows personalised positioning to suit individual preferences.
3. Interpretive Design: Resembles a shell from the front and a Venus Flytrap from the side, creating a dynamic visual experience.
4. Inspired by Ron Arad: Draws on the organic forms in Ron Arad’s designs, blending homage with contemporary relevance.
